10th May - 16th May 2016

This week was great, we had a lot on so quite busy! At the start of the week it was pretty much just the norm, contacting and some meetings. On Thursday we had an exchange and I got to see my trainer again Elder Pantelakis! We had a lot of fun, unfortunately we couldn't find anyone, it was pouring down rain! I don't know where it came from either, it didn't stop all night either. That's not the worst thing though, the worst thing was that I forgot my umbrella! We were about a 20 minute walk from home too, so about 10 minutes we decided to leg it home, in the end I forgot I was unfit so I stopped running and just took the rain like a man.

After the exchange I went back to Zadar and just did the normal things, on Sunday after church we had to book it to Zagreb because we had the David Archuleta concert/fireside. It was great he sounds actually a lot better then I thought he would of, that night we went back to the misison home where we chilled out with him and ate dinner, he told us a few stories and before you know it, it was 11 o'clock. The next morning we had breakfast with him and with some others and we had a mini devotional which was great.

After that David left and then we played some ball with some of the missionaries, it was great fun although I know I'll feel it tomorrow. We then drove home and got some Dr.Pepper and milk duds from the place in Zagreb as its the only place in the mission where its possible, we then went home and now we are here!

This transfer has kind of gone fast! It has already been 5 of the 9 weeks! Looking forward to this week as it wont be as busy and I don't have to drive so much, hope you all had a good week! All the best.

3rd May - 9th May 2016

This week was great! Had a lot of things on which made it go quick and then next week we will even have some more things

Monday was not a normal Monday :/ we had pday on the Tuesday because of a public holiday which was in Serbia and Bosnia, which didn't effect us but the mission all wanted to be on the same page so we had district meeting in the morning, it was weird without the Devers (The senior couple) they always make it a lot more fun. After that we went to Maccas for lunch which was like the 2nd time this transfer, I don't actually go to much, it's not as good as back at home and not too cheap either!

Tuesday we ended up going to "Supernova" which is the big shopping center, got myself a nice $3 blue sweater which will help cope with the heat without having the wear a bright white shirt everywhere! We went with Dino and Bozo, who are our sick Croatian buddies! It was a good day in the end, that night we ended up finding someone pretty cool to talk to which was cool.

Wednesday and Thursday we had fairly normal days up until English then we exchanged and I took Elder Matthews, I stayed at the other apartment which I used to live it which brought back memories, there washing machines filter was clogged so when he opened the door it flooded the whole place! Our land lord came after we used the 10 towels we had to soak it all up, he then fixed it, pretty crazy day! We couldn't find anyone cool unfortunately.

Friday was good we cleaned the computer room in the church in the morning as it was pretty dirty and full of a lot of old stuff! We then had papicas which is an amazing sandwich place across the road, after that we went back home grabbed our plan of salvation cards and went back to the church for a lesson with one of our investigators he text saying he was a little late, we ended up waiting an hour for him! We had a good lesson and realised more about what he needed help with so it was a big step there. For dinner we made some Fajitas!

Saturday We just had a normal day, it was good because the Devers returned from there conference in Sarajevo, it's weird how close you can get to a lot of people within such a short period of time, we pretty much just had a full day of talking to people, apart from at night where we cleaned the church which was fun.

Sunday was all normal except we got to Skype home! I really enjoyed seeing all my family, its funny how things dont change too much even though its been about 9 months. After that we had dinner at the Devers, we had a lasagna which was lovely!

Overall it was a great week, looking forward to next week, get to be reunited with my trainer as he is coming here on exchange, then on Sunday and Monday I'll be chilling with David Archuleta, :) Hope you all have a great week and that you had an awesome mothers day! All the best

26TH APRIL - 2ND MAY 2016

Hello, this week has gone pretty fast we had a lot on, with zone conference being on the Monday we didn't really get much of a pday which was a bummer, but thats okay. Apart from that it was really just a normal week, a lot of talking to people!

On Wednesday we had to do all of Elder Bowles' visa stuff and get it all ready to go which took a bit of time, luckily the police were nice that day, no dramas! We then had English that night which was good we had 3 people come, we taught how to tell the time!

Thursday was just a lot of talking with people and doing the same old same old, we had English again which was good, we did a review on time again and made them talk a lot! we also switched off and had an exchange with the other elders in our district because the zone leaders dogged us and canceled at the last second, I was back with my comp from last transfer (Elder Bolan) which was great, brought back all the memories from the transfer before, it's funny how nothing changes!

Friday was long, it was hot and we just had nothing to do so it was finding all 8 hours, we switched back off that night and had dinner which was yum, mi gorang noodles!

Saturday was fun, we went and contacted in the morning and then I had to do some clerk stuff with our branch president, we then went and had a baptismal interview with and 8 year old who we have been teaching with he grandma who is a member for a while, he did well, we still need to teach him more regarding the Holy Ghost and the sacrament but apart from that it was really good! We just have to organise a date for it all and go from there. He is a good kid I hope he stays in the church!

finished the puzzle!

we got Dr pepper, from zagreb, the only place in the mission to get it

It was fast Sunday on Sunday which is always fun! we had church and unfortunately we had 0 investigators at sacrament meeting which was the first time that has happened since I have been here, we then had one of our investigators show up after the first meeting, I think it was because it was a public holiday here in Croatia and it was pouring down rain. (People are scared of the rain here) We then made cinnamon rolls which was great I will attach a photo of that. After that we had weekly planning and joined our lunch and dinner hour to have a feast with the other elders, we made the weirdest meal but it wasn't too bad in the end.

We ended up finding a few people who were pretty cool, they were not interested in meeting up again unfortunately. That was about my week though, next week will be busy, we have no senior couple here at the moment because they are in Bosnia at a meeting so we have to run the place, we also have a David Archuleta concert in Zagreb which luckily we can go too! We also get to meet him ect.. should be exciting it will be a very good week!

19th April - 25th April 2016

Quick email here, we don't really have a pday because of zone conference I'm in Zagreb now so I won't really have anytime to email at all so I will just be short. This week was pretty normal to be honest we just did our normal things, finding, finding, finding. Although couldn't find anyone to talk really, probably one of the most frustrating times on my mission, its been a few months since I have found anyone who I could get a return lesson with. It is okay though I'm sure things will get better, I have a lot of time ahead of me if I just keep going I'm sure I will be able to find someone who would love to listen.

It has been hot for most of the week except the last couple of days its been a little colder at nights, on the bus on the way to Zagreb this morning it was snowing as we got further out which was cool I haven't really seen snow fall from the sky before.

On Thursday we played basketball with a few of our investigators as they have been asking to for a long time, it was really fun though the next few days after I don't know if I have been sorer in my life! I could barely walk, I should really go for runs more often.

We had the AP's come down for a few days as well which was a blast! It was great to work with them, I always enjoy seeing how other people work.

This next week I have another exchange with the ZL's and one of them is my trainer Elder Pantelakis so it will be great to see him again, I haven't seen him since I left Belgrade. Sorry this email is really short I hope you all have a great week.

Elder Parkinson and I are great mates - on the way to Bosnia

12th April - 18th April 2016 - Well this week was pretty crazy!

Well this week was pretty crazy! First of all Pday was pretty fun, We had Elder Parkinson and Lewis come down from Rijeka, as they were staying with us overnight because of transfers, we just walked around center and then went to the Sea Organ ect.. it was alright nothing too special, it was just great to hang out with the district! We went back that night and all 6 of us stayed in the other elders apartment which was crazy. The next morning Elder Parkinson and I left to Sarajevo, Bosnia! It is a 5-6 hour drive so I let Elder Parkinson drive on the way as I knew that I had a long drive on the way back, a little bit into the drive we realise that the cars GPS doesn't work and we have no map so we had to bludge our way there to Sarajevo, after a while we eventually made it! We had lunch there as we were starving, Bosnia is so cool and amazing the mountains are just crazy! Also they have a lot of Muslims I felt like I was in turkey or some Arabic country, just so different to every other country in the mission. So the trip began on our way back to Zadar, I was with my new companion Elder Bowles who is from a little town in Utah, he is cool he is in to music and enjoys having fun! It should be a great transfer. Anyways back to driving, I forgot to mention they drive on the wrong side of the road which was a little strange although surprisingly I got used it. On the way back we got kicked off the Bosnian freeway so we had to go through a bunch of little villages and though every mountain, the roads were so skinny and there was always a truck with 10 cars behind it, the view was amazing though 12/10 worth it. I wish I could of got photos, maybe next time.... Lets hope I will have the opportunity to serve there! Eventually we got back at 9 oclock, I was stuffed after that long day!

The next day was pretty busy, we had to go to the Police Station and get Elder Bowles all set up for his Visa then we had district meeting which was great as always, we then had to get our food for the week, then Branch Council then some planning.... It was a pretty jam packed day. Thursday was pretty good,we had a lesson with one of our investigators, it went okay but i just get the feeling his desire isnt really there to find out weather or not this church is true which is a shame because he makes the effort and walks a fair distance to church every week. After that we were able to go out and work for a while, couldn't find anyone who would listen but thats okay maybe another day.

Friday was pretty normal we had to plan for the week so in between that we made cinnamon rolls which were amazing, we also worked for a bit that night, we went on a little split with the other elders in our district, Elder Matthews and I went to the church quickly as I had to go to the toilet, then this guy just came walking in and was telling us about how he knew elders in Zagreb a year or two ago or something and then we asked whether he wants to be taught he said yes, after that we taught him the restoration he listened and asked good questions and then said he would like to get baptised, we said we can organise it about a month from now and he said that's too late and that he needs it this weekend because he is going to Ireland for work which was a little strange but okay, then after the lesson he was asking if we have food to give him or money ect.. We told him we can't really do that as missionaries and offered him some oranges that a member dropped off for us a day before that and he said no he wants something with substance like a sandwich or something but we could do that.

Saturday we had a little bit on, we had a good finding session in the morning although not many people wanted to talk I just felt like it was good for some reason, after that we had lunch and then went back out to work and there was literally no one on the streets they all just magically disappeared, I honestly have no idea where they went.. so we just kept going talking to everyone we could, after that we had a lesson with one of our members whose grandson is 8 and ready to be baptised, it was a great lesson we read from the Stories of the Book Of Mormon (He enjoys them) and then we taught about prophets, he understood it all and I think he knows a lot more then what I did when I was 8. They are going to hopefully get him an interview for the baptism sometime this week so that should be great. That night we were contacting when this older lady stopped us and started pointing at this concrete thing claiming it was a bomb and then was trying to tell us to go tell the police ect... I went over and had a look at the thing, it was just a concrete thing to hold up temporary fences, I told her that but she didn't believe me, she then was trying to convert us to being Catholics and told us if we watched this video of this catholic preacher guy on youtube for even 2 minutes we would change faiths... pretty funny I thought.

Sunday was pretty good, we get to the church at 9:20 (yes 40 minutes early, you know just because my last name is Winfield doesn't mean I'm late all the time) to find the guy who we taught on Friday sitting on the stairs, the first thing is asked was for food, I thought wow common don't do this to me, I was in the same sort of position about 2 months earlier and it just sucked, I told him to go to the soup kitchens that they have out here but he said he couldn't or something, anyways he stayed for church then left after sacrament meeting. We had 5 investigators at church which was great, we also had a couple of families come who were from France and they didn't really speak much English, one of them wasn't too bad but they still requested a translation to English so we did, apparently during the summer you get the church packed full of tourists from all over the world but mainly Germany. After that we worked until dinner at the Devers (the best senior couple on the mission) Sister Dever made Spaghetti and an amazing coconut pie desert thing, after that we did tithing and then went home.

It was a good week overall, it went pretty long, I always find the start and the end of transfers are usually pretty slow and then in the middle time just seems to disappear, looking forward to this transfer with Elder Bowles here in Zadar, I'm loving it here I hope I can stay here for longer! I guess we will see though.

5th April 2016 - 11th April 2016 - TRANSFERS!!

I'm staying another 2 months here :) my new companion will be Elder Bowles he was in my MTC group so I already know him a fair bit, although I didn't really talk to him to much, he is into music and other stuff, I'm sure we will get along though.

Well, I'm already branch clerk I have to do tithing and all that every week. I'm happy, I wanted to stay, he is staying too, he will be with elder Matthews who was in my mtc group, I'll be the district leader over them all now :/ it doesn't really mean to much.

No investigators this week for us unfortunately. We did teach some less actives who are no longer inactive which is good i also drove about 3 hours in total in 1 day going up and around mountains! Elder Bolan has some distant distant relatives who he got permission to see so I had to drive him around ect... it was weird driving on the other side of the road, I better get used to it because tomorrow I have to pick up my companion from Sarajevo, Bosnia which is 6 hours drive away from here!
